Rock and Doris have a PILLOW TALK The 2009 GPO Federal Credit Union Stanley Movie Series

5 GENERATIONS
5 FLIX FOR $15

UTICA, NY (August 7, 2009) -The light-hearted romantic comedy Pillow Talk starring Doris Day and Rock Hudson will be shown 7pm Tuesday August 18 as the third offering of the GPO Federal Credit Union Stanley Summer Movie Series.

Celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, this movie also stars Tony Randall and Thelma Ritter and won an Academy Award for Best Writing in 1959.

Set in the late 1950s, long before there were private phone lines (not to even mention mobile phones!), interior decorator Jan Morrow and composer Brad Allen share a phone line. Brad keeps the line occupied all day talking to his girlfriends. The animosity between them builds up, as Jan considers Brad a playboy and he considers Jan a sexually frustrated prude who has nothing better to do than snoop into his private affairs. But when Brad discovers how attractive the other half of his party line is, he devises a plan to seduce her by masquerading as a virtuous Texan.

Variety's review from 1959: "Pillow Talk is a sleekly sophisticated production that deals chiefly with s-e-x." TV Guide says, "Pillow Talk was the first of the witty, well-produced sex comedies featuring Day and Hudson."

Bosley Crowther of the New York Times wrote: "It is really the clever, witty screen play & that accounts for much of the sparkle in this film. Their devices are crisp, their dialogue funny and their cinema mechanics are neat. Frequent clever use of a split screen make for fresh and appropriate drolleries. With a CinemaScope screen to play on, they and director Michael Gordon have much fun."

The movie lasts an hour and 43 minutes. Showtime is 7pm Tuesday August 18, 2009 at the Stanley, downtown Utica.

Admission is $5 or with a stub from a FLiX TiX (5 admissions for $15) now on sale at the Stanley Ticket office, 724-4000.

There will be a coupon in the August 10 issue of the Observer Dispatch, offering attendees a free box of popcorn with the purchase of any beverage.

In addition to popcorn and snacks, specialty wines and beers will be on sale at this event.

The GPO FCU Stanley Summer Movie series is sponsored by the GPO Federal Credit Union, and the Observer-Dispatch is the media sponsor.

This series continues at 7pm every Tuesday in August. Still to come is the great movie musical Oliver! August 25; and the series ends with the rocumentary, The Last Waltz on September 1.

As always, the Stanley features great projection and superb sound.
